The First Passage to ASEAN (P2A) Malaysian Chapter has been organized in EDC Hotel, Kuala Lumpur on 19th October 2018. P2A is a Network and Association of ASEAN Universities and Institutions of Higher Education that collectively offer students ASEAN preparation programs.
P2A visions include to 1) Support the ASEAN Charter, whereby One Vision and One Identity will strengthen and unify its people, while also protecting and preserving the region’s diverse cultures, environments and heritage, (2) Create a society whereby all people may participate in and benefit from regional integration by promoting equal access to education and development and 3) Promote principles of acceptance, respect and friendship, as a means to promote peace and harmony in the ASEAN region.
Representatives from various public and private Universities including Universiti Utara Malaysia, Universiti Teknologi Malaysia, Universiti Multimedia and Taylor’s University attended the meeting. The meeting was chaired by the Dean of Student and Development Alumni Office, CAS Dr. Massudi Mahmuddin. Among the key things discussed in the meeting was formalizing the Malaysian P2A Chapter Committee by electing the Chairperson (Dr. Massudi Mahmuddin, Dean of Student and Development Alumni Office, CAS UUM), Deputy Chair (Ms. Angela Pok. Director, Transnational Education and Strategy at Universiti Teknologi Malaysia UTM), Promotional Secretariat (Dr. Neo Tse Kian, Director of Digital Education Research Institute, MMU), Activities Secretariat (Ms. Choo Lai Yee, Manager Global Engagement, Taylor’s University) and Research Secretariat (Ms. Doriah Abdullah, School of Professional and Continuing Education, UTM).
The meeting has discussed and decided on better activities coordination between Malaysian Chapters. Additionally, the reporting mechanism of activities was established. P2A Malaysian Chapter also is planning to embark on research collaboration for examining the impact of the P2A journey towards promoting shared ASEAN identity.
